3年に渡って進めてきた古紙を材料にした家具プロジェクトは、2023年のSalone Satellite(ミラノサローネ)での展示で発表しました。これらはaioiの初めてのオリジナルプロダクトです。
［01：作品について］ 大量生産を前提とした低コスト素材であるパルプモールドを、プロダクトデザインで扱うと決めました。 しかしそれは、物作りの材料を単純にパルプモールドへ置き換えるだけでは、無意味であると私は考えました。 例えば、構造的に生み出せる強度や、生産時の組み立てやすさ、質感の効果的な活かし方など、この素材を使用すること自体に必然性を伴うアイデアを模索しました。 多数の同型パーツが集まって成立するプロダクトの個性は、“拡張と変化”という更なるメリットに繋がりました。 これが今回のコレクションが作られるまでの経緯です。
［02：資源の循環］ パルプモールドは、古紙をリサイクルして形作るエコな材料です。 “低予算での量産と、少しの強度と、物を傷付けずに包み込める質感” をその個性と捉えた結果、従来は“使い捨てに適した材料”としてパッケージに使用されてきました。 そういった状況に対して私は、“劣化した時はパーツを再度リサイクルさせ、新たなパーツと交換すること”を構想して、パルプモールドをメインの材料として使用するプロダクトデザインを考案しました。 大きなエネルギーを使わず簡単にリサイクル可能な方法としての“永続性”と家具の融合。 これは、生産性を確保した上で辿り着いた、サスティナブルなアイデアにおける１つの到達点です。
The furniture project made of recycled paper, which has been in progress for three years, was presented at the Salone Satellite (Salone del Mobile.Milano) in 2023. These are aioi’s first original products.
［01：About the Works］ I decided to work with pulp mold, a low-cost material designed for mass production, in product design. However, I thought that it would be meaningless to simply replace the materials used to make products with pulp mold. I had to come up with ideas that would make the use of this material inevitable, such as structural strength, ease of assembly during production, and effective use of texture. The individuality of the product, which is formed by a large number of identical parts, led to the further advantage of “expansion and change. This is how this collection was created.
［02：Resource Recycling］ Pulp mold is an eco-friendly material made from recycled paper. It has been used as a “disposable material” for packaging because it is characterized by “low-budget mass production, a little strength, and a texture that can wrap things without damaging them”. In response to this situation, I conceived of a product design that uses pulp molds as the main material, with the idea that the parts can be recycled and replaced with new parts when they deteriorate. The fusion of “permanence” and furniture as an easily recyclable method that does not require a great deal of energy. This is one of the sustainable ideas that I have arrived at while ensuring productivity.
