曲げ合板と2種の太さのスチールパイプで構成される椅子のデザイン。木工の脚部を太いパイプが貫通し、その太いパイプに細いパイプがさらに貫通し背もたれへ上がってゆく。この“直進と交差”を繰り返す造形と構造をデザインの核にして、同じく“直進と交差”性質を持っているMETROを名前にしました。座面と背もたれ近くの太いパイプは、2枚の曲げ合板を接合する役割と、座面と背もたれを細いパイプで繋ぐための交差点でもある。この椅子の外見的な特徴は、構造的に必要なもののみを残し露出して成り立ちます。
The design of the chair consists of bent plywood and steel pipes of two different thicknesses. A thicker pipe penetrates the wooden leg, and a thinner pipe penetrates the thicker pipe and rises up to the backrest. This repeated “straight and cross” shape and structure is the core of the design, and I named the chair METRO, which also has the characteristics of “straight and cross”. The chair’s external appearance is characterized by the exposure of only the structurally necessary elements.
